GALE FORCE EXAM SUCCESS………………….AGAIN!!!
Once again, in 2012, as in many other years Gale Force has achieved great success in their English Speaking Board Exams, with again as in 2011, two students gaining success in the ACLA (Advanced Certificate in Language Arts), the highest award possible and the equivalent of an ‘A’ level or International Baccalaureate exam in Spoken English/Speaking and Listening skills.
Christopher Chan and Ellie Schofield, of King Williams College and Members of Gale Force since they were infants, gained their success after 9 months of study, gaining Distinctions for themselves and precious UCAS points for themselves and for their school. They were required to give a 15/16 minute presentation, lead a 15/20 minute discussion and prepare and present a ‘programme’ featuring a Bibliography, pictures and quotes from their speeches. Both Students were highly praised by Examiner Mr Tony Eyres from ESB, one of their most Senior Examiners, and both Chris and Ellie follow in the footsteps of Moira Pain and Torin Lakeman from 2011, the first ever IOM Students to gain such levels of success in Speaking, Listening and Presenting Skills, under the Tutorship of their teacher Mrs Barbs Gale, Director of Gale Force Theatre School.
Of the 24 students prepared and presented for Exams on 11/12 October 2012, 16 gained Distinctions (90-99%), 6 Merit Plus (80-89%), and 2 with Merit (70-79%), from 7 years of age, Evan Darroch to Adults, Jason Postlethwaite, Kim Holden and Gianni Elvezia, subjects ranged from Olympics 2012, Sir William Hillary, Liverpool F.C. and Charles Dickens and for the audience of Family and Friends permitted to attend it made for some very entertaining sessions including a speech on the Titanic where members of the audience were asked to ‘hold onto a piece of ice!’ as survivors would have had to do during the wait to be rescued…………………reality at its best!
Mr Tony Eyres expressed his delight at being on the Island once more, it had been several years since he had been and was astonished at the standard maintained by students who study for these exams in their own time at week-ends or in the evenings and thought every student had prepared their work to the highest possible standards, he told the room ‘It has been a true pleasure to be here this evening and my job has been made so easy………….please may I come again??!!’
