NEWS from GALE FORCE JANUARY 2012
In the first month of the New Year, Gale Force pupils have, it appears, set the challenge for the rest of the year by producing some amazing achievements.
In the Annual Scholarship Awards to enter King Williams College, Francesca Warren received Academic/ Music/ Drama awards, John Kite received Academic Awards and Timmy Chan a Music Scholarship, congratulations from us all to 3 very clever students.
In the Annual Reading and Poetry competitions at KWC, through to the Final are Harry Ashley for Year 7 and Maebh Worthing in the Poetry final for Year 9.
Gale Force itself has been very busy through this first month making decisions for entries to the Manx Music Festival (The Guild!) and have submitted over 100 entries into all sorts of classes, solos/duets/drama/poetry/ensembles/Gaelic Choirs/Choral speaking and Duologues, a cheque for £294 was sent to the Secretary this week and with entries at £2 a class, …….well……….you can all do the Maths!
We have welcomed 2 new members, Victoria Hoover and Rose Lane, who have shown enthusiasm / dedication / talent in just 3 weeks that makes us believe we have 2 new talents among the ranks, and helping at Gale Force as volunteers for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards are, Moira Pain, Olivia Christian, Chris Chan and Torin Lakeman and, so far, are managing to cope with the tasks set by Mrs Gale each week, their warm-up sessions are …………..totally brill!
Mrs Wendy Sutcliffe, our ESB consultant and new member of staff is recovering from major knee surgery and will be with us in March for a week-end study and Richard Corlett continues his Teacher training at Plymouth University.
12 students from Gale Force have entered the bi-annual ‘Young Singer of Mann’ competition and as we have in our ranks the present Young Singer winner, Eve McGregor, we hope for some great results on March 4th 2012.
