NEWS - September 2010.

The new term started with 42 students returning for the new term and registering their places and we were delighted to be able to welcome new Members:

Martha and Mary Teare from farm Hill
Amy Kelly from Peel
Isabella Craig from Arbory
Cameron Goldie from Colby
Ellie Charlton from Douglas
Conor Bassage from Peel
Matt Caley from Douglas
Kate Lace from Ballasalla
Harry Ashley from Port Soderick

All have been able to show their best efforts so far, and have been able to overcome any shyness, taking part in Musical Numbers and Mime. We welcome them all and hope they are with us for many years to come! Sadly Gale Force has no further spaces now but the good old waiting list is still in operation with a new name already, waiting to claim a place! Miss Jessie Quigley, who is just 5 this week, passed her very first swimming exam and Miss Amelia Crossley passed Grade 4 of her flute exam and will be playing for us at our Concert in Douglas on October 1st 2010.

Miss Kirsty Walsh has cause to celebrate too as she was chosen to be a ‘buddy’ at her school, Peel Clothworkers, after stiff competition from many other students. Wearing her badge and her very special hat her duties are to help and advise new and younger pupils to the school and can be approached by any pupil needing a shoulder to cry on, we are very proud of Kirsty being chosen by her teachers to be part of this scheme.

Older members Richard Corlett, Moira Pain, Chris Chan and Ben Bassage have been working hard to integrate our new students into the drama section in Gale Force by creating some fascinating adverts in which they were able to take part and using some very strange imaginations we were able to see adverts for soup, fish and chips, and of course chocolate! They were hilarious and made everyone end our evening in the first few weeks on a real buzz!!

ESB (English Speaking Board) exams are looming fast, 7th and 8th October if you have mislaid your dates, and all our students are rehearsing hard ready to face Adjudicator Alison Coates from the UK. Subjects as diverse as Space Travel, Lego, Gymnastics, Laxey Wheel, World War 2 and Christmas are being finely tuned and Roald Dahl, Michael Morpurgo and JK Rowling have again proved to be some of the most popular authors for our students reading. Results will be the main feature of the next Newsletter but we wish everyone the very best of luck!!

Please remember our Concert for the Orphanage in Nepal on FRIDAY 1st OCTOBER at the LOCH PROMENADE CHURCH in Douglas, all students will be taking part with songs from ‘Mary Poppins’ and our Manx Songs from the Guild 2010. Tickets are available from Mrs Gale at £5 which includes refreshments, and it is a new venue for our students in which to perform, many doing solos and poems and don’t forget Amelia on her flute!!

Paul Bradford our favourite Choreographer comes to see us on Friday 8th October to put us through our paces for our Christmas Show, so get out those pumps/ballet pumps and prepare to be shattered but excited as Paul creates his usual magic to our Victorian Christmas scenes.

Finally Mrs Savage is feeling so much better and after 9 months in Nobles Hospital is now living in Reayrt ny Bane in Albert Terrace, Douglas. She would love to hear from anyone, with news and maybe pics from Gale Force sessions or your school life and hopes very much that she will see us at the Home where we are planning to sing very soon. She thanks all those who have sent cards or letters, after such a long time she is glad to be able to settle down in her new home and sends everyone her love!
