Galeforce Students 'Moving on up!'
Harry Ashley age 13 and living in Port Soderick has been a pupil of Mrs Barbara Gale since he was in Kindergarten at the Buchan School and she was Head of Drama.
Always enthusiastic in taking part in all school Concerts and Performances as well as taking all his ESB exams for which he has been awarded Distinction on every occasion and is now at Senior 2 level.
He was accepted at Sylvia Young Theatre School 3 years ago in their PR/ADVERTISING section and has been working continually on auditions for films, TV and adverts but then the decision was taken that he apply to be accepted as a full time student to study all the usual academic subjects but study drama / music / dance / mime full time in the hope that this will lead to a career in Performing Arts.
After a great deal of study throughout last term and having to present an audition consisting of Shakespeare/Song/Comedy Drama/Dance, along with hundreds of other hopefuls, Harry has been awarded a place and travels to London this month to begin a whole new life! SYTS is one of the most successful Theatre Schools in the UK with many household names passing through the doors and beginning just as Harry is now.
Francesca (‘Chess’) Warren age 11 and living in Castletown has just made the leap from Buchan to KWC on a full scholarship showing that she is not only academically very bright but she is also a wonderful performer of song/drama/mime/dance and has been studying with Mrs Gale since she was 6, Francesca recently won Honours when GF participated in Performing Arts/Musical Theatre exams gaining 90 marks.
She has had considerable success at the Manx Music Festival and has been awarded Student of the Week at the GF Summer School in 2011 and 2012.
Other students ‘moving on up’ to Secondary School include Barton Beaumont soon to be in ‘Annie’ and the Christmas Pantomime, Beth Colgan, one of the most successful actresses in GF, Timmy Chan, a beautiful singer, goes to KWC along with rugby fanatic Adam Corby Fayle, and Adam Morton joins CRHS with a wonderful list of success in singing/drama and mime.
