NEWSLETTER MARCH 2012
What a very busy month has been for Gale Force Members and how successful!!
What a very talented ‘bunch’ of students we have and how very proud we are of them all! MARCH 4th saw the First Round of the bi-annual ‘Young Singer of Mann’ competition at the Erin Arts Centre in Port Erin where no less than 30 young singers had to perform two ‘contrasting’ songs and Gale Force Theatre School entered 12 students. Out of the 30 contestants, 8 were chosen for the Final in June 2012 and Gale Force had 4 of the finalists, namely Lauren Whitfield, Isabella Sim, Maebh Worthing and Adam Morton, who in fact was the only boy chosen to be in the final 8 and it was his first attempt at the competition!!!
Our congratulations to them and to the others singers, Timmy Chan, Emily Unsworth, Jenny Chan, Francesca Warren, Andrew Halstein, John Kite, Elina Keig who sang SO well and our thoughts to Nick Harvey who despite all the preparation, was too ill to perform that day!
That weekend and for 3 subsequent weekends since there have been auditions held for the production of ‘ANNIE Jr’ due to be staged at the Gaiety Theatre in October and here more success for Gale Force in Kirsty Walsh, Jacob Halstein, Andrew Halstein and Francesca Warren all being offered the chance to be in the show and Harry Ashley being awarded the part of ‘President Roosevelt’………..book your seats now for what promises to be a great show!
Adam Corby-Fayle and Francesca Warren were also in the UK this month representing their school in Rugby and Netball, with Francesca being awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy for the girls and both students receiving high praise for their work and behaviour.
Emily Unsworth was part of her school team in the Rotary Public Speaking Competition and her school won with Emily being the best ‘Vote of Thanks’, wonderful work here too.
Mrs Wendy Sutcliffe our Consultant on all things Drama and our ESB Examination expert has just been on the Island for 3 days and was able to see most of the students including the Adults preparing for the Festival and those working very hard for the nest exams including Chris Chan and Ellie Schofield who are attempting to also receive their ACLA (Advanced Certificate in Language Arts) in October and had to give up precious time over the weekend to deliver the latest work for inspection!
The ‘Yn Crunniaght’ competitions were held 28/29th March this year and Jessie Quigley, who attends St Thomas School, entered in the solo class and was awarded FIRST PRIZE for singing in Manx out of 14 competitors and her school choir of which she is a member won first prize too! Well done Jessie!
Gale Force has had a visit from the ‘Ramshackle Theatre Co’ to look forward to this week and then its only 4, yes 4 weeks till the GUILD!!!!! (HELP!!!!) So please as much effort into all our rehearsals and your lessons as possible please!!!
